From a romantic proposal in San Francisco to a custom made designer dress, this couples fairytale Bali wedding is sure to inspire fashionistas around the globe. This is the love story and real Bali wedding of Linda & Jason.
The loved up pair first met at a mutual friends 21st birthday celebration. Linda’s mother attended the event, spotting a handsome young man in the crowd, pointing out Jason to her daughter. The next day, Jason added Linda on MySpace, paving the way for a friendship that will surely last a lifetime.
After dating for 7 years, the couple embarked on an unforgettable trip to America, where Jason popped ‘the question’. Linda said “I travel to the USA for work twice a year and after we bought our home in June 2017, I thought it would be nice for Jason to also travel over before we started home renovations. Whilst in San Fran, we drove around the city for a day in a hired Mustang convertible, on this day, Jason was so nervous as we took in city sights. We drove up the highest hill in San Francisco which overlooks the beautiful city. At the top, we asked someone to take a photo of us and that’s when Jason bend down on one knee and proposed”.
Bali was Linda’s first choice for a tropical wedding being the destination of their first holiday together as a couple. She said “I always dreamed of having a wedding in a tropical place and fell in love with Bali. I frequently visited and knew that it was the place I wanted to get married, Jason just wanted to make me happy. On the wedding day, he actually said it was crazy to feel like a guest at his own wedding".
Q&A with the Bride
Tell us about the venue chosen to host both ceremony & reception?
"We chose The Pandawa Cliff Estate. We visited a few different places but as soon as I walked into The Pandawa Estate, I knew it was ‘the place’. The estate’s villas were stunning with the most breathtaking views and I wanted all my guests to stay in one place, so it felt like a mini holiday with everyone".
What was the theme/style of your wedding?
"I work with a beautiful designer, Belinda Glynn, who designed my dress. The dress had beautiful embroidery with gold undertones and I really built the theme around this, choosing a softer colour palette with flowers, lace table clothes and gold table settings with the peacock chairs being the center of attention. For the ceremony, the arch was super high and wide and I chose the aisle to be quite wide so all guests could see properly. We originally were going to do a glass podium in the pool but ended up opted for a full rose pedal decking which had never been done before. It looked perfect and I felt like I was getting married on top of floating roses. I loved all the details in the wedding and couldn’t have asked for a better setting”.
What was your favorite moment during the ceremony?
“When I walked down the aisle and first locked eyes with Jason, we both could not stop crying. I still cry every time I listen to the song I walked to”.
Tell us about the bridal look chosen for your Bali wedding?
“Even though I was getting married in Bali I always imagined I would wear a long sleeve backless dress but when I went to try on the style I pictured as my dream wedding dress, I soon realised this style wasn't the look I wanted anymore. I then went to try on silhouettes but soon discovered that a fitted style low back with a point of difference was what I was looking for”.
Who designed your stunning wedding dress? And did you have any input in the design?
“My beautiful friend and Co-Worker Belinda Glynn designed my dress, she is the creative director of ONCEWAS and I am lucky enough to work alongside her. She had designed her own wedding dress that was so stunning, so I asked her if she would like to design my dress. I knew the shape that I wanted but didn't know if I wanted lace or sequin. As soon as Belinda sent me the sketch I fell in love straight away, I couldn't have even dreamed of a more perfect wedding dress, Belinda had embodied everything I wished for in the dress and more. The lace was all hand applicated and positioned perfectly to suit my body shape, the bottom layer was a sheer gold shimmer, so it would have that slight sparkle without it being a sequin. The wings were my favorite add on and at the time it was something not many brides were doing. I love wearing unique and different pieces and I know this dress was a 'one of a kind', lightweight and so comfortable to wear. Lenka Couture who made the design come to life and Belinda worked around the clock up until the last day before the wedding to get my dress ready and I am forever grateful for their hard work”.
Your bridesmaids looked so sleek and elegant in their white playsuits. What inspired this unique look for your Bali wedding?
“I always knew I wanted my girls in white. We went shopping to look at some dresses and there wasn't a lot of options out there. I really wanted something unique that suited my dress. I am a sucker for a jumpsuit and after chatting to Belinda we thought how amazing it would be to have the girls all in custom made jumpsuits. The jumpsuits were made of a stretch cupro (which was the same fabric as the lining of my dress) and had splits on the side of the legs and an open back making it super breathable for Bali’s climate”.
Tell us about the headpiece you wore on the day. who designed this and where can our Bali brides get one?
“The headpiece was the final addition to the outfit and purchased during a day of shopping down High Street, Armadale in Melbourne. The leaves matched the lace on the dress perfectly. I had the piece braided through the side of my hair, and I feel it just completed the look I was going for”.
Who were your main Bali wedding suppliers?
"We used Your Bali Wedding for a planner, Oma Thia's for catering and P1 for videography/photography”.
What advice would you give to future Bali brides?
“Make sure you see the venue and try the food if you can make a trip to Bali before the wedding. We saw the venue, tried food/cake 14 months before the wedding. To any future Bali brides, I would also highly recommend using The Bali Wedding Directory as this would be very helpful”.“Make sure you see the venue and try the food if you can make a trip to Bali before the wedding.
